The Kristallnacht was a series of lynchings and combined attacks that occurred in Nazi Germany (including Austria as well) during the night of 9 to 10 November 1938 and carried out against Jewish citizens by the SA assault troops along with the population civil, while the German authorities observed without intervening.

Presented by Nazi officials as a spontaneous reaction of the population after the murder, on November 7, 1938, of Ernst vom Rath, secretary of the German embassy in Paris by a young Polish Jew of German origin, Herschel Grynszpan, the reality is that the pogroms were ordered by the Führer, Adolf Hitler, organized by Joseph Goebbels and committed by members of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Schutzstaffel (SS) and the Hitler Youth, supported by the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), the Gestapo and other forces of the police.
