The Republican Party or Grand Old Party stood against the extension of slavery to the country´s new territories and aimed for the complete abolition of slavery in the country during the 19th century. During the 20th century, they stood for the policy of the minimum interference by the government in economic affairs or "laissez-faire".

The Democratic Party supported slavery and opposed to civil rights reforms during the 19th century. During the 20th century, it had a major change in its ideology during the 20th century, as it shifted to the support of organized labor movements and the civil rights of minority populations.

What the vast majority of colonists wanted from Great Britain is for the right to influence the political decisions regarding the colonies due to the fact that they were taxpayers. They also wanted more fair tax impositions as the ones that were imposed at the time were considered too excessive. However, as it was demonstrated in the civil war, there was a great division regarding the abolition of slavery and civil rights. In conclusion, the representation of what the country became after the independence did not entirely match what the population of the States as a whole envisioned.

bangladesh is one of the world’s most densely populated countries; the size of illinois, bangladesh has a population of 156 million people, half the population of the united states. despite recent progress out of poverty and increasing human development indicators such as literacy and life expectancy, inequalities in income and consumption rates have increased (undp 2005). 32% of the population lives below the national poverty line, most of whom are women and children. the prevalence of child (under 5) malnutrition is 33%, one of the highest in the world.

the disproportionate poverty faced by women and girls comes as a result of discrimination and exclusion within bangladeshi society, struggling to establish their rights and influence in decision-making processes. traditional practices such as dowries, child marriages and the relegation of being last to eat have created a demeaning and dangerous sociopolitical context for girls and women.
