Children were abused, overworked and paid very little. They worked from 12 to 14 hours in very unsafe conditions. Those who were not able to meet their quota were punished. Children as young as 6 years old were already working in the factories. The Factory Act of 1833 was created by Parliament. Children below 9 years old were not allowed to work. Children were not permitted to work at night and children should have two hours of schooling every day. Factory inspectors were appointed to see to it that factories did not violate the Factory Act.
