They were a sort of religious political party. They held to and attemptedto hold others to an oral code as well as the written one. The instituted a lot oftraditions and instituted a practice called "fencing the Law"; which was creating astricter code of Laws around the original law so as not to break it. They were veryinfluential leaders in Judea.
