Napoleon fought a war against the Catholic Church

Napoleons first move as being a leader was to make peace with the catholic church. He decided that he would make the catholic church the religion of a majority of the french people. In return, the pope would not ask for the return of he church lands seized in the revolution. This agreement made is so the catholic church was no longer an enemy of the french government. It also meant the people that had acquired church lands in the revolution became vivid supporters of napoleon. This was the concordat.
