How did Khmer's hierarchical society reflect the influence of ancient Indian culture?

The Khmer Empire, also known as the Angkor Empire, was an empire located in what is now Cambodia, although at different times, it extended into the territory of Southern China, Vietnam and Myanmar.

The hierarchical society that existed in Khmer resembled the caste system that existed in India. This is evidence of the influence of ancient Indian culture in the region. Under this system, commoners (usually farmers and fishermen) were the vast majority of the population. The kshatriyas included the governing elites, such as nobles, warlords and royalty. Brahmins (priests), traders, and artisans formed other different classes. Finally, the lowest social level was formed by the slaves.
