What new farming methods and tools did farmers use on
the Great Plains?

Explanation: The use of the steel plow allowed farmers in the Great Plains to use the hard dry soil productively to grow crops. Also dry land farming began, which was a process in which farmers did deep plowing in the Fall so that grain roots could use the moisture. Typically, this was done after a rain so that the moisture under the top soil would be packed into the subsoil allowing the soil to be ready in the Spring. Grains that didn't need much water like Turkey Red Wheat and sorghums  were developed as well. Windmills were constructed and used to pump water to the fields, and with the invention of barbed wire, cattle were now kept in confined areas so as to not destroy the land further.
