Kalidas was a Hindu Indian poet and dramatist, who lived during the reign of Chandragupta II, of the Gupta dynasty, around the 6th century.

It is considered his most famous work the drama written in Sanskrit called Sakùntala, in fact, it is said to be one of the masterpieces of Indian literature.

It should be noted that Kalidas belonged to the court of Chandragupta II because of his status as a poet and dramatist and was highly respected for it.
