A 40-year-old, overweight, pregnant woman comes in for her routine appointment. She is 28 weeks pregnant, complaining that she is constantly thirsty and saying that she spends all of her time running to the bathroom. She has been feeling more lethargic than normal lately and she has lost some weight. No abnormal cells were found in her urine sample but lab results revealed the presence of glucose.

Explanation?

The patient must undergo urinalysis (a urine test) which will show the presence of glucose in the urine.  

Patient may have Gestational Diabetes because she has gained some weight and because she is pregnant she is always having to urinate. She is contantly thirsty as much of her glucose is supplied to the baby through her body which also causes weight gain of the baby.  

She will follow a care plans including dietary changes, make sure that the baby does well, exercise regularly, inject insulin to control the level of glucose.  

When the baby's born, this disorder will most likely go down.
