You are surveying a rehabilitated mine site that has acid mine drainage that goes into the burdekin river. the contaminated water draining the mine site is highly evaporated and has an average δ18o of 2.13‰ vsmow. to estimate the dilution of this contaminated water by the burdekin river, you collected mollusk shells before and after the place where the contaminated water enters the burdekin. shells above the junction have a δ18o of -22.80 ‰vpdb and shell below have a composition of -22.58‰vpdb. what fraction (as a %) of the water below the junction comes from the contaminated site. assume that awater- shell is 1.021.
my working is shown below. i am thinking the last bit is incorrect which is the mixing model problem. i am unsure how to work out the mixing model equation/problem for the above problem.
