Anansi and Turtle Anansi the spider made a delicious dinner. He couldn't wait to eat it. He sat down and picked up his fork. Then he heard a knock on his
door. It was Turtle. Turtle had smelled Anansi's dinner. He said, "Anansi, your dinner smells so good. May I share?" Anansi was greedy. He
didn't want to share. He said, "You can eat with me, but first you must wash your hands. They are dirty from crawling." Turtle crawled to the
stream to wash his hands. By the time he crawled back to Anansi's table, his hands were dirty again. Anansi sent Turtle away to wash his
hands again. When Turtle got back Anansi had finished eating. There was nothing left for Turtle.
Turtle was angry, but he didn't show it. He thanked Anansi for sharing his meal. Then he said, "You've been so kind. Come to my house.
Share a meal with me." Anansi was excited. Turtle was known for his tasty meals. The next day. Anansi went to Turtle's house. Turtle had filled
a table with Anansi's favorite foods. But the table was under water.
Anansi knew what to do. He filled the pockets of his jacket with rocks. The rocks would help him stay under water. Turtle said, "I am
happy to have you sit at the table with me. Eat the food I've made for us. But first, you must take off your jacket." When Anansi removed his
jacket, he floated to the surface and could not share Turtle's meal.
