Mexico has well-known monarch butterfly reserve. Migrating butterflies use fir tress as shelter on cold nights. In fall 2009, however, bark beetles were killing the tress. Usually, chemicals are the best way to control beetles . But the chemicals would also harm the butterflies. So workers consulted environmentalists about the problem. They decided to cut down some of the tress. They removed enough tress to stop the beetles but left enough healthy trees for the butterflies. The beetles the monarchs.
