This is the Greek myth of Prometheus.

Prometheus was one of the Greek Titans. He created humanity from clay, shaping mankind with his own hands.

Shortly after, he stole the fire from the Gods, and gave it to humanity so that humanity could survive, and become wiser and wealthier.

Because of his sin, Prometheus was trapped by Zeus, and bound to a rock, where an eagle would eat his liver everyday. Prometheus' liver grew back everynight, but it was eaten again by an eagle the following day. This was the eternal punishment that Zeus gave him for stealing the fire.

Prometheus has been an important cultural figure from the time of the Ancient Greeks. Some philosophers have seen him as a symbol of humanity's arrogance, while others have seen him in a more positive light, as a symbol of humanity's ability to grow, and face unfair powerful forces, even if they are divine.
