The lunar cycle can be divided into eight phases. Put the following phases in the correct order, starting with the new moon. 1
Waxing gibbous: The moon is more than half illuminated but is not yet full.

Waning gibbous: The moon is again more than half illuminated. However, it is not full.

Waning crescent: The last sliver of the moon is illuminated.

Waxing crescent: From Earth, only a sliver of the moon is illuminated.

Full moon: The side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by sunlight.

New moon: During the new moon, the entire side of the moon facing Earth is dark.

Last quarter: Half of the side of the moon facing Earth is lit. This is the half that is not lit during the first quarter.

First quarter: From Earth, you see a half circle. Half of the side of the moon facing Earth is lit.
