PROJECT: BUILDING DNA The DNA molecule is found in all living things and has the same structure and is composed of the same molecules. The shape of DNA resembles a twisted ladder called a double helix with the sides of the ladder made up of alternating sugar and phosphate molecules and the rungs of the ladder made up of paired nitrogenous bases. For this project, you will build a DNA molecule by placing its basic parts together like pieces of a puzzle.

After you have successfully built a DNA molecule, respond to the following questions using at least 150 words:

What kind of pattern do you notice with the structure of DNA? For example, what pattern do you see with the rails and rungs of the ladder structure? What type of bond holds the base pairs together?
Briefly describe the DNA transcription process, which involves the transfer of the DNA genetic code onto an mRNA molecule. Include in this answer the role of enzymes.
How is transcription similar to replication, and how is it different? What happens to the resulting molecule in each process?
