Why are tidal patterns generally predictable?

Well lets see they are predictable because they are by checked by  what position the sun is at and the distance from earth right and other factors can be like wind and the distance from earth and how they move and stuff. So they use all those different things are going to influence the way the tides move so they can make a prediction as to how the when and how high the levels will be.
