I would say the correct answer is B. beautiful sound. As impressionist composers (although they didn't like to be called that), they aspired to embody ultimate beauty in their music. It didn't have to do with a perfect form (as it often wasn't perfect), and it had absolutely nothing to do with politics. Rhythms could be interesting, but they weren't the goal of this music.
