Imagine that while you are speaking to an audience, you notice that (a) everyone
is very quiet, (b) a man in the front is rubsing his neck, and (c) a woman is looking
in her purse. give a negative interpretation of these events and then give a
positive interpretation of these events.

The woman looking in her purse isn't listening to you (the speaker) which is a sign of that she woman isn't very interested in your speech. Instead of listening to you she decides to look in her purse and doesn't pay attention to you which is rude and disrespectful.

On the other hand the good thing is that everyone is very quiet and there are no disruptions to your speech, which allows you to speak without being interrupted by someone talking or making an unnecessary comment.  

answer: the message or content is the information that the sender wants to relay to the receiver. additional subtext can be conveyed through body language and tone of voice. put all three elements together—sender, receiver, and message—and you have the communication process at its most basic.
