PROYECTO: UNA TABLEAU VIVANT O PINTURA VIVIENTE Language is part of culture. In English there are several words that come from other languages. For example, the words "check" and "zero" are of Arabic origin, and "kindergarten" is a German word. There are also several French words and phrases that we use in the United States (U. S.), like "boutique"; "fiancée"; "hors d'oeuvres"; and "a la carte." OBJECTIVES Create a drawing or painting and re-create it in a tableau vivant or living picture. Tableau vivant is a French expression meaning "living picture." Before radio, television, and movies were invented, this was a popular form of entertainment. A tableau vivant recreates a scene from a painting. Props and background scenery match the art work and participants dress up and pose like the characters in the painting, not moving or talking. These days, tableaus vivants are sometimes used for dramatic effect in movies or television shows. The Pageant of the Masters, held annually in Laguna Beach, California, always features a recreation of Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper.
