"in ambush, o'brien tells the story as though how it led up to him killing the man. he talked about his 9 year old daughter asking if he had ever killed anyone, and he told her no but also wishing that later when she is older she will ask again so he can tell her that as a kid she was right. he told the story as everything that happened before he killed the man, how he was on watch duty in the night and saw the man in the fog, and that he didn't want to kill him, and that he wanted to warn him."
