The Second Amendment right to own fire arms was not incorporated to apply to state governments until 2010 in the case McDonald v. Chicago, but even in that
decision the Court said the Second Amendment is not unlimited. Therefore some states have enacted restrictions on the types of guns, ammunition and accessories an individual can own; creating a patchwork of policies across the country. If Texas' new abortion law withstands challenges to it in the Supreme Court, we may also see patchwork of laws governing abortion across the country with it being restricted in some states and not others.
1. Should some civil liberties be left to the states governments (legislature and courts) to decide how they are applied?
2. Are there some protections of rights that shouldn't be incorporated; that should only apply to the federal government?
