In the Treaty of Paris, which ended the French and Indian War, most of the territory between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River which had formerly belonged to the French, now belonged to England. It was decided that the land west was to be reserved for Native Americans. The border area would be secured by 10,000 British troops. This decision also meant that American colonists were barred from settling west of the Proclamation Line. Based on the map, how did the Proclamation of 1763 provide national security for the British? It made it easier to maintain stability and security in a smaller area than a larger one. American colonists were less likely to enter into conflicts with Native Americans. Maintaining troops along the boundary would stop the French from moving further east into the British colonies. The British were better able to defend themselves against native American attacks.
