Water resources in Oceania are varied. On larger islands, streams and underground aquifers supply much-needed freshwater. Moreover, large amounts of rainfall throughout the year help water vegetation without any need for irrigation.

On the smaller islands and atolls, freshwater resources are scarce. Streams are often small, and lagoons, while oftentimes beautiful, are filled with seawater.
