Deborah has always done well in school. She's bright, motivated, and conscientious, and these qualities have put her on track to be the class valedictorian. Her academic success, however, has come at the expense of developing close friendships. Her classmates consider her to be aloof and cold, but never overtly mean. Most of the time, she's simply left alone, but a few of the girls at school have recently started taunting and threatening her. At first, it was just insults, but yesterday Deborah got shoved in the hallway and had her purse stolen from her locker. She's afraid of what will happen next and is starting to dislike school.
