It's as though they believe that since everyone else is doing it, they should as well. Tobacco companies have employed sophisticated marketing strategies to exclusively target youngsters. There are numerous reasons why teenagers begin to cigarette smoking:

Peer pressure is a factor for some smokers, who light up in order to fit in with their cohorts.

Smoking can be a way for socially uncomfortable teens to blend in.

The "rebel" tag that smoking may carry appeals to some.
