Literacy is the ability to write and read according to ones age, education qualification or exposure.

Literacy is different from person to person and can be indicated using the following factors:

1.Fluency

Fluency is the ability to read or write while expressing oneself easily and accurately. A literate person will be able to express him or herself easily while an illiterate might not be able to do so completely or struggle while expressing him or herself.

Fluency is important as it easies communication between people and ensures information passed is what was intended .

2.Use of vocabulary

Vocabulary refers to the body of words that are used in particular language.

Accurate use of vocabulary shows a high literacy level than low use of vocabulary.

Use of vocabulary builds the language being used and also helps to create eagerness in learning more of the language.

Use of vocabulary also provides intellectual satisfaction.

3. Comprehension

This is the ability to understand something

A better understanding shows a high literacy level and vice versa.

Comprehension helps one to flow in a conversation in the desired directions without wavering off the subject or topic of discussion.

4. Decoding

This is the ability to interpret or analyze an image,word or sentence the way it is supposed to be.This information is mostly given in a coded or a secretly way.

Decoding helps in critically thinking and building our mental ability to remember details.
