How did the acquisition of new land change the united states and eventually lead to conflict?

As the united states gain more territories it bag to create borders with spanish and french colonies that in most cases developed into wars over the contested area. Some examples are the Frech-American war, The Mexican-American war, and the  Luisiana Compromise.
