Most parts of the U. S. have been using DST (Daylight Savings Time) for decades. However, not everyone likes it. The time change can create complications. For example, DST can cause sleep deprivation. It confuses the body’s biological clock. Sleep loss can lead to depression and dementia, psychiatrist Emily Deans says. A 2014 study conducted in the United States also found that the risk of heart attack increased by 24 percent the Monday after DST. This was compared to a typical Monday for workers. There are also economic consequences. In 2010, researchers from Chmura Economics and Analytics estimated that the U. S. lost $434 million because of DST. Workers lost sleep and were sluggish. They were less effective at their jobs.
