1.Frederick Douglass was an African American who escaped from slavery and went on to become one of the most prominent leaders in the fight to end slavery in 19th century America. He wrote three autobiographies, established the anti-slavery newspaper The North Star, was a brilliant orator famous for his fiery speeches, and was appointed to several important posts in the government.

2. As a slave, Douglass was not allowed to have much of childhood but ig you can say that he spent it educating himself and others after escaping

3. Douglass was the most photographed American of the 19th century, sitting for more portraits than even Abraham Lincoln. Frederick Douglass bartered bread for knowledge.
