Paul talks to the horse because he needs to get to know it. He needs the horse to be comfortable with him. Paul is really good with animals, especially horses. He’s very caring and kind toward animals. Talking to the horse makes Paul more likely to win the race because he’s gaining the horse’s trust. If the horse trusts him, he’ll let Paul ride him.
