The Protestant Reformation was a movement which divided the Catholic church and the people of Europe. It caused much religious conflict. This is important to the development of the United States because the explorers to America used these religious disagreements as motivation to find new lands.
many did not know whether they should convert the natives to Catholicism or Protestantism.
many fled Europe in search of religious freedom.
the new colonies established decided to have no religion at all.
