Why did americans not want to do the field woke after returning from world war 2?

They believed that they should be compensated from the war.

Explanation:

World war II lasted for around 6 years.

Most of the soldiers that went there sacrificed a good portion of their productive years and risk their life to protect Nazi's attack. But, none of them were receiving enough wage during their military's days.

so after they came home, they refused to get back to the field before receiving fair compensations from the government.  On top of that, many of them also came back with both physical injuries and psychological damage that prevented from working on the field.
