Over those years, Britain spent a lot of expense to fund their war and accumulated high amount of debts from other European countries.

In order to pay off this debt, Britain  need to find a way to increase their revenue. So, they decided to increase the Tax payment that have to be paid by the American colonies.

The American colonies resented this decision and try to negotiate. But the British government shut down the negotiation effort. This what cause the American revolution.
