What was the disagreement between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic over icons?

The eastern orthodox considered the use of Icons as a violation of the ten commandments from the bible.

The second commandment in the bible stated that Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.  The eastern orthodox church interpret this as a ban for the usage of objects  such as idols or image of deities during worship. The roman catholic on the other hand, perceive the use of icon as a symbolic that help them feel the presence of God during their ceremonies.
