Kurdistan territory is located in a strategic location within the middle east. It's located exactly in the middle of Turkey, Iran,  Syria, and Georgia.

This means that if any of those countries wanted to travel or distributed their products to the other, they will have to pass Kurdistan territory. This provided opportunity for Kurdistan to impose tariff toward the goods that are passing their territories. It lower the average income of the neighboring countries of Kurdistan.
