Texans had nothing in common with U. S. citizens. The cultural differences made annexation difficult.
Adding Texas as a state created an imbalance between southern and northern territories in terms of size.
Texas was predominately Catholic, while the rest of America was Protestant. Adding Texas created religious conflict.
