It is their task to make researches, studies and experiments which would allow the masses to understand the world we live in. If they refuse to relay significant information to other scientists and the public, the world will be faced by certain consequences like:

-untreated diseases
-unnamed newly discovered species
-stagnant technology innovation
-war
-death
