Assimilation was one ideological basis of French colonial policy in the 19th and the 20th centuries. Unlike in the British Empire, the French Colonial Empire taught its subjects that by adopting French language and culture, they could eventually become French.

The policy of assimilation was the official colonial policy of the French administration in West Africa. The system involved the imposition of French culture on the West African culture. It was meant to substitute the culture, language, religion, law, mode of dressing, etc.

The definition of assimilation is to become like others, or help another person to adapt to a new environment. An example of assimilation is the change of dress and behaviors an immigrant may go through when living in a new country. Assimilation is defined as to learn and comprehend.

Basically assimilation means changing beliefs, behaviors, culture, language etc. to adapt to a new environment. France does this through secularism which means separation of religion from the state, religion has no place in ethics of the state and in no civil affairs. he knew himself very much. he saw himself as a villain of a real-life super hero story. he was aware of his strengths (more than smart enough for being manipulative and scheming) and weaknesses (having fragile bones and having to rely on his mind to succeed).
