Looking glass self was officially pulled off by Charles Cooley in the year 1902. It is a psychological phenomenon which gives a person the concept to see him/herself the way other people see them.

It is understood better with concepts of imagination of how others see us. Also imaginations on how other people tend to judge us also play vital role in such a type of phenomenon. This is why in the case used above of when someone is been told he/she is funny and the person outrightly believes it to be true; this piece clearly exhibit a perfect description of the looking glass self.
