1. Before the French joined our side in the revolution, we were tired, hungry and dirt poor. When Marquis De Lafayette of France first came to help George Washington, they gave the Americans supplies, troops, and taught them how to fight in battle properly. If it weren't for the French, we likely would have surrendered to England.

2. It depends. During the American Revolution, an enslaved man taking their master's place for serving the war could grant them their freedom, which was really all they wanted. But during the Civil War, President Lincoln technically had already granted slavery illegal, and so for the North, enslaved people finally had gotten their freedom, but in the South, they were still free, but also looked down upon by the whites, who used the slaves to get work around the house done.
