Now you will write the opening paragraph of your letter. Your opening should greet the reader, appeal to the emotion you want the reader to feel, and explain why you are writing.

How are you? How is your family? I hope you are all doing well? I have missed your presence. Since your absence, I have become rusty in the game of basketball, and my daily routine has been very boring. I remember how we usually jog around the streets and how we sneak out of the house to the movies. You are a great friend!.  I am writing this letter to inform you of my application at Harvard School of law and that it has finally been granted. My long time dream is about to become a reality.

I hope you will be excited to hear this news from the Soviet Union. It is time for some serious reforms in our country, and I am thrilled to tell you that I am the one who will institute these reforms.
