For the variable "satisfaction with life", the researcher asked the subjects ten questions that are related to positive attitudes toward one's own life. Each question presents a statement and requires a response on a scale of 1 to 7 (strongly disagree to strongly agree) to indicate the subject's agreement with the statement. The researcher then calculated a composite score by averaging the 10 responses for each subject, and then he calculated an average score for the whole group of subjects. The researcher was treating this variable as a variable.
