The Iranian hostage crisis was a period between 1979 to 1981 when the Iranian revolutionary movement ceased about 77 U.S nationals at the U.S embassy in Tehran, Iran. This incident was triggered as a result of the political turbulence that had engulfed Iran between 1978-1979, which led to the deposition of its monarch, Palhavi. After the said deposition, Palhavi ran to U.S to find solace, this culminated in the Iranian government accusing the U.S of political interference in her internal affairs, and consequently, the Iranian revolution group laid siege on the U.S embassy in Tehran, capturing about 70 of the U.S nationals. In a bid to make the Iranian government release the captives, the U.S placed economic and trade embargo on Iran by avoiding Iranian oil, solidifying Iranian assets in the U.S.
