Central place theory was developed by Walter Christaller(1933) as an attempt to explain the spatial arrangement , size, number of settlements and patterns behind cities and towns by examining and defining the functions of the settlement  structure and the size of the surrounding. Walter Christaller found that it is possible to model the pattern of settlement locations using geometric shape, to do this, he developed three two-dimensional geometric models of the economic landscape, he arranged these model relative to transport, marketing and administrative principle
