What was life like for athenians under the rule of pericles

Pericles was born in Athens to a family of aristocrats. He was a brilliant general and an orator. Athenian culture prospered under the leadership of Pericles.  

He influenced government and culture in Athens. They became more democratic, by participating in the government. Athens became a center of learning and arts.  

Athens reached great highs in terms of economic and cultural development. Pericles also expanded the sphere of Athenian influence and prepared his people against the rival Greek city of Sparta for war.
