I think we naturally tune out dull presenters who are not enthusiastic about their work, those who use a monotonous tone and appear to be reading from a script. Engage the audience with voice inflection, facial expressions, and even effective gestures. A graduate from my school would regularly present in our literature class, and I was always impressed by the ease of which he captured the audience. I attribute it to how comfortable he appeared at the podium, and his way of letting loose and engaging with the audience as peers rather than "classmates listening to his thoughts."
