wars are violent and harmful, but the destruction of resources can do more damage than weapons. enemies may ruin each other's food supply, farms, and livestock. these actions can threaten the survival of entire populations. many of the worst wars of our time are accompanied by mass starvation. in some cases, starvation is used as a weapon. in 2018 the united nations (u. n.) passed a resolution condemning the use of starvation and food insecurity as tactics of war.

the disproportionate poverty faced by women and girls comes as a result of discrimination and exclusion within bangladeshi society, struggling to establish their rights and influence in decision-making processes. traditional practices such as dowries, child marriages and the relegation of being last to eat have created a demeaning and dangerous sociopolitical context for girls and women.
