In the original 13 colonies of the United States, there were generally 3 geographical areas: New England, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. New England quickly became the Industrial center of the colonial period as the growing season there was short due to its northern location, and the topsoil was not good for largescale farming, just homestead, and local production.
