What is the difference between a republic and a democracy? even though most americans today would probably say the u. s. is a democracy, our founders sought to create more of a pure republic. why might they be suspicious of excess democracy during the 18th century? The republics are usually presidential or parliamentary. In the former it is the people who elect the president or head of state and in the latter it is the parliament who elects it. in some and in others the powers of the president are different. Examples of the first are in the US or in some republics of south america and the latter are found in Europe in countries such as Germany or Italy.

Democracy is about a mode of election of the rulers of a certain state. We have two modes of democratic exercise: direct or by representation.

in general the theory of economics says that the more open to trade a country is the better   the result for the same country and the whole economies.

in real life countries impose taxes, quotas, etc which is not so good for the economies.

this kind of commercial war between the usa and china is slowing down the growth of the whole world so we can say that it is a draw back of trade regulations. and the free trade agreements are benefits of trade regulations.
