Naturalistic observation is a method for research that is commonly used by psychologists and social scientists. Natural observation is a technique that allows researchers to observe subjects in their natural environment. This research is used when the possibility of doing lab research is not impossible. The reason behind it is too high of a cost and the fear of affecting the subject’s behavior.

Here is an example of naturalistic observation, researchers are looking for certain aspects of people who live in the forest. It will be too costly and too much of a hassle to recreate a forest as a lab experiment. By doing it in a more natural setting, the researchers can save cost and observe the real and natural behavior of the people in the forest. The use of informed consent, voluntary participation, and deception are important in naturalistic observation.

Even though it’s important, the deception has to be done as little as possible. The deception must not cause the participants to have distress. If the participant might have the possibility to get distressed after they cover the truth about the research, then the research is unethical and should have not to be done.

If the participant’s consent is gained by deception, then they might agree to take part in the research without actually knowing what they are consenting to. The real research must be disclosed as early as possible.
